The Client “Bill of Rights”

Part III of LTCA, sets out the client “Bill of Rights”.  Clients have the right to :

 

1 be dealt with in a courteous and respectful manner, and to be free from mental, physical, and financial abuse by the service provider ;
2 be dealt with respect for their dignity, privacy and in a way that promotes their autonomy ;
3 be recognized for their individuality, needs and preferences, including ethnic, spiritual, linguistic, familial, and cultural factors ;
4 receive information about the community services to be provided for them ; and who will provide it ;
5 to participate in the service provider’s assessment of their needs, the development of the plan of service, and in the service provider’s subsequent evaluations and revisions ;
6 right to consent or refuse a community service ;
7 to voice concerns or recommend changes about their community services, without the fear of interference, coercion, discrimination or reprisal ;
8 to be informed of the policies & procedures affecting service provider operations, and to receive written information on the procedures for initiating complaints about the service provider ;
9 to have their records kept confidential in accordance with the law.
