| PRCS was initially formed to
act as an umbrella agency for the Service providing integration and support in the
community which was, at this time, looking for a sponsor. Beginning in 1983, people were recruited to serve on a consultation committee to study the viability of the organization. During this step, it was quickly realized that one could not develop an organization with a just single service. The committee then mulled over this situation and identified, amongst others, that there was no group offering services favoring the support of seniors at home and coordinating the collection of services offered to the older population. A request along these lines was made to the Ministry of Community and Social Services to create such a service. The Ministry gave its approval to this concept. In 1984, steps were undertaken to recruit members to sit on the first Board of Directors of PRCS and also to hire a general manager. Furthermore, a new service meant for mentally-handicapped people was added to the organization. In 1985-86, PRCS continued on its way with the development of its constitution and its presentation of letters patent in October 1986. In April 1991, we attained the status of a charitable organization in order to have an additional source of funding. In January 2001, the program for the mentally-handicapped was dropped by the Ministry. In contrast, the services for seniors continued to shape up. In closing, it is to be noted that we constantly strive to achieve our motto which is For a Self-Sufficient Community. |
